Textiles - Clothing
This is a small cross section of the one of a kind clothing that I have created over the years.
Her Choice Vest
Apothecary Patchwork series
2022-This is a political piece that I created in response to the overturning of Roe vs Wade by the Supreme Court.
Pomegranates are representative of fertility and femininity. The rough patchwork was created in response to the rough times ahead for women.
Her choice is on the back. Applique, beading, patchwork and embroidery are all techniques that were used in the creation of this piece.
This piece was shown in the FADS Exhibition, and the SCTA Fashion Show.
2023-Creating a collection is something that many textile designers never get the chance to do. The Capstone Collection class at UC Davis gave me this opportunity.
This steampunk collection was created as an upcycled challenge project. Sustainability in fashion is an important topic for me, and I wanted to create a collection that was sustainably created. All the fabrics except for one small piece used for lining, were sustainably sourced. Patchwork fabrics were sourced from high end interior design samples that would have ended up in the landfill, and the rest of the fabric was sourced from thrift stores, craft thrift stores, or left over fabric from other projects.
This collection was shown in the FADS Exhibition, and the SCTA Fashion Show.
Moss and Stone Dress
2023-The creation of this dress was in response to a Biomimicry prompt. After heavy research, I chose a moss and stone theme, and most of the dress was created by upcycling.
The overdress is created with hand dyed doilies and lace, crocheted free form pieces, created fabric using Solvey, and completely hand stitched. The asymmetrical slip underdress is created with a stretch polyester.
This piece was shown in the FADS Exhibition, and the SCTA Fashion Show.
Goddess Dress
2022-Creating this dress involved using recycled sari scraps to create the woven structure on the dress bodice. all strips were sewn into tubes, and used to create the lattice weave.
Couching was used to embellish the shoulder straps, using heavy silk embroidery thread. A cascade of colorful leaves down the skirt was created using sari scraps appliqued onto the skirt.
This piece was shown in the FADS Exhibition, and the SCTA Fashion Show.
Patchwork Jacket
2022-I created this jacket as a class assignment. We had to have at least 6 different pattern pieces (this has 17), include 2 types of surface manipulation (patchwork, pin tucks, and machine embroidery).
I spent a total of 50+ hours on this jacket, mostly getting the tiny patchwork pieced and correctly sized for the inner lapel, which extends the full length of the jacket.
This jacket has been shown in both the FADS and SCTA fashion shows.
